Webb (shoulder) will play catch on Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery in August, the East Valley Tribune reports. Recommendation: It's only going to be a soft toss session, but Webb is expected to begin regular preparation for spring training in the coming weeks. The D-Backs picked up their $8.5 million option for Webb on Friday, so they're hoping that he'll rejoin Dan Haren at the front of their rotation. |

The Diamondbacks exercised Webb's 2010 contract option on Friday. Advice: General manager Josh Byrnes says Webb has recovered well from an Aug. 4 arthroscopic surgery on his pitching shoulder. Byrnes cited Webb's significant contributions to the club in deciding to pick up the option year. Webb made just one start last season before being put on the disabled list. He's a three-time All-Star who won the 2006 Cy Young award. Webb is 87-62 with a 3.27 ERA over seven seasons. |
