Player Notes
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Tuesday that an MRI on Mark Teixeira's injured right shin showed "more than we thought."

Advice: Teixeira will be on crutches for the next couple of days and could miss the next couple of weeks. Greg Bird is getting another start at first base on Tuesday night against Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello. Alex Rodriguez could see starts at first versus lefties.

Mark Teixeira (shin) has been sent back to New York to undergo more tests and has been ruled out for the series versus the Red Sox.

Advice: The Yankees wish they had a mulligan on this one, as it's clear Teixeira should have been placed on the disabled list a while ago. As it is, they won't make a move now with rosters expanding on Tuesday. Obviously more will be known when the test results come back, but Teixeira is simply in too much pain to play now. Alex Rodriguez is expected to get a start at first base on Wednesday, but Greg Bird will continue to play versus righties.

Mark Teixeira (shin) is out of the Yankees' starting lineup again on Monday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Greg Bird will get another start at first base. Teixeira has barely seen any action over the last two weeks due to a lingering deep bone bruise in his right shin. He's not going to be placed on the disabled list because rosters are expanding on Tuesday.

Mark Teixeira (shin) remained out of the Yankees' lineup Sunday.

Advice: Teixeira has started just one game over the last 13 days due to a deep bone bruise in his right shin. He's not going to be placed on the disabled list with roster expanding soon, but there's no timetable for his return to action. Greg Bird will continue to handle first base.

Mark Teixeira (shin) remains sore and could be sent for more tests.

Advice: Teixeira returned to action Tuesday, but he could barely run and he's still feeling it after Thursday's off day. Obviously he's not in Friday's lineup and he could finally be placed on the disabled list. Greg Bird will fill in again at first base.

Mark Teixeira is not in the Yankees' lineup Wednesday.

Advice: Teixeira returned to action on Tuesday, but the Yanks have decided to rest his ailing right leg again for Wednesday's afternoon game with an off day coming Thursday. He should be back in there Friday. Greg Bird is at first base Wednesday.

Mark Teixeira (shin) returned to the Yankees' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Advice: Teixeira hasn't played since last Monday due to a deep bone bruise in his right shin, but he was all set to pinch hit Monday before Carlos Beltran's game-winning sacrifice fly. He's playing first base and batting cleanup against Astros ace Dallas Keuchel.

Mark Teixeira (shin) is out of the Yankees' starting lineup again on Monday night against the Astros.

Advice: Greg Bird will get another start at first base as Teixeira continues to nurse a deep bone bruise in his right shin. The veteran is still considered day-to-day and could be available to pinch-hit Monday. He hasn't appeared in a game for the Yankees in a week but was able to take pregame batting practice on Monday afternoon.
