RHP Josh Beckett confirmed to WEEI.com that he plans to have agent Michael Moye sit down with the Red Sox and begin preliminary discussions on a contract extension. The hurler is entering the final $12.1 million option year on a contract extension signed in 2006 during his first season with the Sox, and he hopes to continue a career in Boston that's included multiple All-Star appearances along with a 2007 World Series title.
