RF Brian Giles said his hamstring has improved markedly over the weekend and he said he expects to be ready to play when the second half commences Thursday in St. Louis. "There has been noticeable improvement," said Giles. "Getting off it for a couple days was the right decision."

Giles (hamstring) expects to play Thursday when the Padres return to action against the Cardinals, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Recommendation: Giles played through the injury for several weeks before deciding to take some time off, sitting out the past six games. "There has been noticeable improvement," Giles said. "Getting off it for a couple of days was the right decision."
