This has to be a joke, right? What you're seeing has nothing to do with Kevin Na trying to get hits on his YouTube account. This is actually Na teeing off on the 15th hole during Saturday's third round in Las Vegas, and completely missing the ball. Scratch that, this is a shot of a guy with $1.5 million in 2011 tour earnings whiffing on his tee shot with a driver. A satellite-sized driver.
I honestly don't know what to think. Trying to go for the green late in Saturday's round, Na suddenly altered the path of his driver on the downswing, missing the ball in the process and leaving viewers at home wondering if he had missed the ball on accident.
"I'll take it back ... it feels decent, and my transition is what I'm always working on," Na said after his round. "It's always my bad habit is I get quick. And on the way down my transition doesn't feel right, and I try to stop, and obviously it's impossible for me to stop. The only way for me to stop is I have to come up and go over the ball."
Despite missing the ball, officials noted that rule 14 under the Rules of Golf allowed Na to take a "check swing," miss the ball, and not be penalized for the whiff. It's a good thing Na wasn't assessed a penalty stroke for the miss.
He's currently in the lead at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and if he goes on to win the tournament, I'd be willing to bet most people will forget about the whiff.
Ah, who am I kidding. There's no way Na's ever going to live down this swing.
UPDATE: Na did go on to win. It was his first PGA Tour title, winning by two shots over Nick Watney.
