The Seattle Seahawks have won Super Bowl XLVIII, their first ever, and have done so in unique fashion.

No, not by their stifling defense or with their precocious young quarterback Russell Wilson — but with the first 43-8 final score in NFL history, according to Pro Football Reference.

The historical NFL site tracks all kinds of arcane statistics, and they have a terrific search engine that can track games by a specific score. According to their database, this was the first time 43-8 ever happened.

A night of firsts indeed.

Makes a little more sense when you think about the early safety and a Broncos two-point conversion. If you had "8" and "3" in the Super Bowl squares game, congrats on an unlikely windfall.

Oh, and it was quite a night for another number — 12. Yes, the 12th Man thing has been beaten to death, but with the Seahawks faithful showing great support at MetLife Stadium, the team scored exactly 12 seconds into each half, on a first-quarter safety and a third-quarter kickoff return by Percy Harvin.
