Here's a little quiz. This is your story: Attractive model wife of an NFL quarterback leaves an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle in the trunk of her rental car. Family on vacation discovers the rifle. Did this story take place in:
If you guessed "Florida," no prize for you, because this is one unintended weapon discharge and three Pina Coladas from being the most Florida story ever. Earlier this month, Lauren Tannehill, the wife of Dolphins QB Ryan, accidentally left a bag containing an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle in the trunk of her rental car. (It's important to note that the rifle is legally owned by Tannehill.)
Here, for reference, is a photo of an AR-15 for sale at a gun store in Pompano Beach, Fla.:
Football. Guns. Models. You know what? Forget Florida, this might be the most American story ever.
Anyway, the gun was discovered when a family vacationing in Florida saw the bag, opened it up, and reported the gun to authorities. One short investigation later, and the authorities traced the gun back to the Tannehills.
“Though dangerous if it would have landed in the wrong hands, it’s not criminal,” Broward sheriff's spokeswoman Keyla Concepción told the Florida Sun-Sentinel. “They simply forgot it.”
The sheriff's report indicated that Lauren Tannehill rented the car from E-Z Rent-A-Car on Jan. 4 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and returned it two hours later to swap for a different car. The Tannehills reported the bag lost immediately, though they did not specify what was in it. The family that discovered the bag and gun rented the car shortly thereafter.
You get the idea that this was one wrong renter from being a Tarantino movie? Yeah, us too.
