Revis Island is firmly planted in Tampa Bay.

Nevertheless, some NFL teams are interested in acquiring Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis.

According to CBS Sports reporter Jason La Canfora, several teams have reached out to Tampa Bay about a possible trade for Revis. Tampa Bay reportedly has not received an offer yet, but La Canfora said “rival executives believe a deal could be possible.”

Teams are interested in the cornerback because recently hired coach Lovie Smith’s Cover 2 scheme may not be the best fit for Revis. Cover 2 focuses on zone coverages, and Revis’ strength is playing man to man.

Another factor for interested teams is Revis will earn $16 million this season and counts $16 million against the salary cap. Revis is slated to earn $16 million per year with no guaranteed money through 2018. Tampa Bay could release him at any time and not worry about a future salary cap hit.

Regardless of what happens, Tampa Bay is poised to obtain at least one draft pick because of Revis.

The Bucs traded the 13th overall pick in 2013 and a conditional fourth-round selection in 2014 to the New York Jets for Revis. If Revis is on Tampa Bay's roster the third day of the new league year (March 13), that conditional pick becomes a third-rounder. If Tampa Bay trades Revis, the team could receive multiple draft picks in exchange for the cornerback.

Teams are always inquiring about trade possibilities. If Tampa Bay gave away Revis for a seventh-round pick, the last thing any general manager wants to do is explain to his boss why he never made an inquiry. Most teams are just kicking the tires.

There might be one team desperate enough to acquire Revis, but it is hard to imagine him being traded this offseason.
