Laces out! New Orleans Saints miss early field-goal attempt because of poor hold

Don't blame new New Orleans Saints kicker Shayne Graham for his 45-yard field-goal miss in the first quarter of the divisional-round game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Frankly, we're surprised head coach Sean Payton didn't go for it on fourth down, but Graham was called on to kick the relatively makeable kick. He might have had his holder, backup quarterback Luke McCown, not turned the football's laces in, instead of out.

It's a pretty rare mistake on a good snap — maybe a one-out-of-a-hundred mistake? It hasn't been a pretty special-teams performance for the Saints, who also had a poor punt (because Thomas Morstead just dropped the ball when it hit his hands) that led to an early Seahawks field goal.

But the field goal was the biggest turning point early. Doesn't McCown remember Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?
