Washington Huskies guard Isaiah Thomas has a chance to be one of the best at his position in 2009-10. The Huskies are going to have a fast, versatile backcourt, and Thomas is the most gifted scorer in it. If Romar decides to play uptempo, Thomas -- an insanely quick perimeter guard with a great pull-up jumper -- could receive a big statistical boost from more possessions, and those kind of statistical boosts help get players like Thomas enough money to dine on Pop Tarts for the rest of their lives. Yep, it's all coming together.
And hey, if it doesn't work out, Thomas can always just go ahead and play football, right? According to Thomas, anyway. This isn't just a passing fancy, either. Thomas has mentioned his desire to play football before, most recently at this year's Huskies media day:
--- Isaiah Thomas said he'll consider jumping to the NBA if he receives assurances that he'll be a high first-round pick. Thomas also said, he might consider going out for football. He hasn't spoken to Romar or coach Steve Sarkisian, but said he's been thinking about it the past few days. Thomas was unsure which position he would play, but said he's played football his entire life so it wouldn't be that difficult.
OK, so maybe things wouldn't be that easy -- Michael Jordan had played baseball his entire life, and look how that worked out -- but it's nice to have options in this world, isn't it? Sick of basketball? Play Division 1 football! Why not, right?
