Former Nebraska QB Taylor Martinez launches social media app
Former Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is releasing an app.
"Journey," which Martinez co-founded with Loren Hall, is a social network designed for people facing disabilities or challenges. They say the focus will be on a positive environment for people to share their struggles and accomplishments.
“Journey is going to help change lives one connection at a time," Martinez said in a release about the app. "This is more than just an application, it’s a community. It celebrates and honors the heroic journey of every struggling individual. It provides them a platform to socialize, educate and inspire the world. If you are challenged in some way, this platform welcomes you to share your story, talk about your daily battle, help people understand the lifestyle you live and how your mental or physical disability has changed your life and made you a stronger person.”
Their company says the app, available via iTunes, is targeted towards the 15 percent of the world's population facing a difficulty. The app has many different categories and sub-categories from addiction to cancer types, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and more for people to easily locate others going through the same experiences.
Jack Hoffman, the child who scored a touchdown during Nebraska's spring game in 2013, is prominently featured on the app's website. Martinez said Hoffman's fight with cancer helped inspire him to make the app. In August, Hoffman's family announced that Jack's cancer had returned.
Martinez played quarterback for Nebraska from 2010-2013 and started a school-record 43 games under center for the Cornhuskers.
