NFL - Sports Rumors

Asked if the New York Giants have a chance to repeat as Super Bowl champions, Paul Domwitch of the Philadelphia News responded: It would be tempting to say yes, if only to avoid dozens of wonderful, you're-a-freaking-idiot e-mails from Giants fans. Do they have a chance? Sure, they have a chance. This is the parity-driven NFL, where every team not owned by Al Davis or Bill Bidwill or Denise York or Dan Snyder has a chance to capture the grand prize each year.

Even with the retirement of Michael Strahan, the Giants head into '08 with 10-plus-win talent, particularly if Eli Manning picks up where he left off last season. But they didn't win last year because they were the best team. They won because they were the hottest team at exactly the right time. They caught lightning in a bottle in late December, and that usually doesn't happen to a team 2 years in a row.

While I have great respect for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Giants' pass rush just won't be as fierce without Strahan coming off the left side.

They'll win 10 games because of Brandon Jacobs but they'll definately won't repeat.

Crapola. This guy should do his homework. Justin Tuck is taking over for Strahan and will storm the league. They were the best team, the best team wins. He's from Philly, what do you expect???

Thanks for the cutting-edge news story Yahoo! You are really going out on a limb to say that a team that won four straight road playoff games six months ago has the chance to win 10 games this season. Tell me the Lions or Raiders have the talent to win 10 games....that would be more newsworthy!

They should be a playoff team if they avoid any key injuries.

They play the Great Pittsburgh Steelers and AFC North, then the y have the Deadskins, Eagles, and Cowgirls twice... so can count at least 4 to 5 loses right there..

Of course they have a shot! They're not in bad shape for the upcominf season; just don't lose heart if they're as streaky as ever. If they make it again this year it won't be with 12-4 record. The best they'll do is 11-5 or 10-6, which doesn't matter if they can get hot when it counts like last season . . .

Oh how quickly we have forgotten that Matt Kiwanuka shall be back next season and considering the depth at LB we have right now, he will probably go back to DE, or at least go back and forth between OLB and DE...With Osi, Tuck and Matty K patrolling the outside D-Line. we'll be saying who's Mike Strahan by the 7th game of the season...just watch...
Philly fan...typical...no effective pass rush without Strahan? please.
Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna miss Strahan, life time Giant, one of the greatest D-lineman to EVER play the game...second best defensive Giant ever (behind LT of course). Yeah, we're gonna miss ya Strahan, but our pass rush will be just fine and the Giants have the potential to a top defense in the leageue

What could you expect from a Philadelhia reporter---A "Giants will repeat" headline. Not without the eagle fans putting a price on his head!!!

i will guarantee they dont even make the playoffs this year they lost 3 of their top 5 sack leaders including strahan and if ne1 was watching the playoffs they went after ROMO,FAVRE, and BRADY, and that is why they won and no other reason they were able to pressure the big time QB
Eli Manning is a scrub and is getting way to much credit for last year

Giants miss the playoffs. I give them all the credit in the world for taking down the Patriots but winning it all last year was nothing short of a miracle. Eli is not his brother and never will be.

Keep up with the negativity. Just like last season when we were rated last in the playoffs, those opinions will just be more fuel for us to prove you all wrong. Go Giants!
