Shutdown Corner - NFL

The percentage of NFL wide receivers who are actually happy seems to be dwindling by the moment. Adding the recently-disgruntled Anquan Boldin to the list, that number seems like it's down around 8% or so.

According to the NFL Network's Adam Schefter, who I don't believe has slept in six days, Boldin has requested that the Cardinals trade him.

As much as I wonder why it's always receivers that are wearing the grumpy pants, I really can't blame Boldin on this one. He's been a fantastic player for the Cardinals, as well as a model citizen. He's performed as well as his counterpart, Larry Fitzgerald, and yet, he's currently due to watch Fitzgerald make almost four times what he's going to be making.

Put yourself in his shoes. You're paid pretty well, and you're at least as good at your job as the slobbering nozzle two cubicles down. But his paychecks dwarf yours. If you're any kind of a man, you're either going to ask for a raise, quit, or at the very least, set that guy's cubicle on fire.

My point is that this is not a Chad Johnson situation. Johnson causes half the problems with his team, draws attention to himself at every opportunity, and then gets mad and wants to leave when he doesn't get along with everyone in the locker room.

Boldin's just a guy who wants to be compensated for his work.

I didn't realize Larry Fitzgerald was a "slobbering nozzle", & I'm not entirely convinced that Anquan Boldin is as good as Fitzgerald anyway. Regardless, I'm getting sick of both players & teams signing contracts & then, just a year or so later, the arguments start over "extensions" & "renegotations" & so on. I'd love to see the old days return, when a contract was a contract & people were held to them.

Can't compare Boldin asking for a trade to Chad Johnson doing so. Anquan isn't making a spectacle of the whole deal like Chad is. Boldin signed a contract. Maybe he's outgrown that agreement but the Cardinals have to be scared to restructure only to see Boldin get hurt again. But if I were Arizona management I would pay him. Find a way to get closer to Fitz. Boldin gets dinged up b/c he's going all out trying to help a hapless franchise win. He goes over the middle, gets the tough yards, model citizen, team leader. Everything you want in a ballplayer. Restructure his deal. Retain the guy. You have to spend if you want to change that team's history.

I love boldin great team player and you never hear anything bad about him. i hardly believe hes screaming at people or crying like chad for this contract. its easy to see where hes coming , he's put in his time and wants to be compensated it's understandable. if i was arizona i would certainly pay him, not only for his ability and hard work but because matt leinart still is not all the way there yet and someone like boldin will only help the process

Mr. Boldin is the the best thing going in Arizona. He has been a constant overachiever from day one. Arizona had gotten there money worth and a whole lot more. This man is the definition of a team player even from his days a Fla State when he would play out of position for the sake of the team. I the man does not get at least 5 million a year it is a dam shame. This man has done nothing but good for you, please dont screw him over!!!!!!

A trade with Jacksonville would actually fit well for Boldin. I don't think it will happen, because they just lost Bry Johnson, and I just can't see them shipping out another WR. Although, that 26th Pick could be good for a DeSean Jackson. I'm just a little biased right now on this.

I don't think it matters that he got a new deal a few years ago. They would cut him if he didn't perform.
He should be able to re-negotiate for what he is worth. And I think AQ is worth a lot more to AZ than his stats alone.

Sounds like another athlete who is upset that he signed a contract. They should just make the positions incentive based, with league minimums. It would stop the whining.

Boldin is a classy, team-first guy. Boldin plays consistent football, doesn't run his mouth, doesn't do stupid celebrations, PLUS, he BLOCKS in the run game, and he doesn't drop balls in the clutch.
Basically, Anquan Boldin is EVERYTHING Chap Johnson is not.
Chap wanted to be traded ever since the Cincinatti beat writers called him out for blaming Palmer last year after the Patriot blowout, when it was Johson who ran the wrong route and caused the interception. Carson, ever the team player, accepted the blame even though he knew Johson was in the wrong.
If Chap "I be, all 'bout me" Johson was a real team player, then last year in the first game of the season, his Jacket would have said: "Super-Bowl or BUST". But not Chappy... it was all about him.
I'd take Boldin over Johnson every single time.
Teams with better chemistry almost always beat the more talented ones...

The best thing the Bengals are doing is calling out Chad ... I'd love to see more teams follow suit. This is a team sport, and no player is above the team. The more teams that cave in to their player's demands, the more player's we'll see do this. How funny would it be to see Chad Johnson sit out a year and lose all that dough. Rosenhous would crap his pants because it would make him look like a fool.

Some people might not believe this, but to me Boldin is a better receiver that Fitzgerald. Does not put himself ahead of the team like Johnson does, although Johnson is a good receiver. Arizona should pay the man or the 49ers will take him as well to upgrade our receivers.

I am really hopeful that the Bidwills will screw this up and Boldin will wind up in St. Louis, but the odds of that happening are pretty slim. Still, I think this is one receiver who deserves a new contract. He's put up as good if not better numbers than Fitzgerald from day one. You need the guy, so pay him what he's worth!

I agree that Boldin is underpaid for the stats he is posting including the fact he does not cause any trouble of the field, but why is it that all of the issues regarding WR's & palyers represented by Drew Rosenhaus are always whining & complaining about their contracts or demanding to be traded? I believe the root of these problems stem from a GREEDY agent called Drew!!!!!

Watch as the Dallas Cowboys pull a draft day trade for the 22nd pick. TO on one side, Blodin on the other and Glenn in the slot, Whitten as a safety valve. Now Romo has some toys to play with.
