May Second Baseman Rankings

Ryan Boyer previews Game 6 of the World Series and discusses a pair of surgeries for Colby Rasmus in Tuesday's Daily Dose

Welcome to the May second baseman rankings update. Players are ranked for the rest of the season based on a 5x5 scoring format. Included along with the position rankings is an updated top 300. Players are listed wherever they’re most valuable, so if you don’t see that third baseman you’re looking for, he’s probably listed at second or short.

Dropping off: Jose Peraza (43rd), Daniel Descalso (44th)

o Just a few days ago, I felt I had no choice but to drop Kipnis to 10th or lower. But then he went and hit two homers in three games after showing absolutely no power during the first three weeks of the season. It seems like injuries have really taken away from him as a player, but then, he’s just 28 and he finished with 17 homers and 30 steals two years ago. I really don’t have any idea whether he’s going to get back to being a top fantasy second baseman or not.

o Franklin (oblique) is all set to begin a rehab assignment, which could give the Rays a very crowded second base situation in a couple of weeks. As well as both Forsythe (.835 OPS) and Beckham (.798 OPS) have hit, there might not be any room for Franklin on the major league roster once he returns. It’s not like he has a big defensive advantage on the alternatives, either. One problem for the Rays: Asdrubal Cabrera might be the worst player in the whole bunch, yet figures to continue to start anyway. (If you’re looking for Beckham on this list, he’s listed over at shortstop.)
