Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Portland at Houston

I pondered this selection for most of the afternoon. San Antonio up against the Mavericks is always a fun night out, even if things are a little orthodox. The Magic in Chicago should be interesting, even if it is a blowout. And all sorts of little subplots could emanate from the other five games on tonight's schedule.

That's what BtBs are for, though, and at this point the Houston/Portland pairing is looking tops.

The reason Yao is looking a tad frustrated in the above photograph is because he didn't play particularly well on the night it was taken. A night that saw the Blazers down Houston with a 30-foot Brandon Roy jumper at the buzzer.

I rewatched that game a few times before deleting it, and I have to say that a typical Yao Ming night (defensively, as well) wins that for the Rockets. And I didn't see anything in Portland that would stop Yao from not having a typical night.

But that's why we play the games.

Breathe, Yao. Breathe.

Portland Trail Blazers: 35-20, 86.8 possessions per game (30th), 113.5 points scored per 100 possessions (2nd), 108.8 points allowed per 100 possessions (18th).

Houston Rockets: 35-21, 90.5 possessions per game (19th), 108.3 points scored per 100 possessions (13th), 104.3 points allowed per 100 possessions (5th).

Also, it's where we get our stats, and it's where we learned to grow up. Happy Birthday, Knickerblogger.

Yeah, this is the most intriguing game up to this point in the season--- a talented young up and coming Portland team against an over the hill, Mcgrady-less Houston team who should be the # 2 seed heading into the playoffs.

We lost the last game against those guys because McLady didn't defend at the last second. No More! "Revenge is best served frigid cold" Murder them and take their spot at the standing.

Over the hill Houston team? Hmm you make it sound like they're the Spurs. Just chill out and enjoy seeing the Blazers lose badly.

Blazers will take this one, too. Too bad Greg can't help out. Also, tomorrow's game in SA will be a good one, with a rematch of those two teams in the Rose Garden on Sunday (yours truly in attendance).

Blazers win by double digits.......Yao plays well, but he is the only one. Artest jacks up contested 25 footers all game.

Blazers are a year or two away but they're headed up in the standings. The Rockets will handle them tonight and the Spurs will do the same tomorrow night. They have no answers for Aaron Brooks and the Rockets defense.

What's the probability of drafting two Sam Bowies in a row? I'm not bashing on Portland, just their infatuation with injury-prone centers.
