Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Boston at Orlando

Neither team has any excuses entering this game, and I can't tell you how refreshing that is. I'll try to, but I really cannot.

Not that the Cavaliers or Lakers are prone to excuse-making, but they've been dealing with injuries, so Monday's Lakers romp over Cleveland didn't really have the smack of permanence. Tonight's game does, just as December 1st's Boston blowout of the Magic seems to have taken on more and more significance as the season moves along.

Kendrick Perkins will start, but he isn't 100 percent. That stings, and the idea of Brian Scalabrine guarding Dwight Howard is literally laughable, but the C's haven't faltered with Perkins out of the lineup, unlike the Cavs without Delonte West and Big Z, or the Lakers a little while ago without Lamar Odom. It's not a disadvantage until someone takes advantage, y'know? And nobody has been able to. The Magic would like to.

Boston played last night in Miami, but this team's dogged pursuit of doggedness often tends to overcome weary legs. And all Perkins' 90 percentishness means is that Perk and Scal and Glen Davis (who, if we're honest, will see the most minutes at backup pivot) will turn into foul machines against Howard, which would seem to suit Boston's needs.

Adding to the intrigue, Orlando's biggest loss of the year was to the C's on December 1st, and you know the Celtics are mindful of the fact that the Magic took two of three from the champs last season. Perkins or not, this game should count.

(Also, remember, BDL live blog tonight! 7 pm Eastern.)

Orlando Magic: 33-8, 92.8 possessions per game (10th), 110 points scored per 100 possessions (5th), 100.8 points allowed per 100 possessions (3rd).

Boston Celtics: 35-9, 90.9 possessions per game (17th), 109.9 points scored per 100 possessions (7th), 99.5 points allowed per 100 possessions (1st).

This is one of those games that all NBA fans should get pumped for! I'm looking forward to it.
I'd like to see D. Howard have another 20pts, 20rbs type of game.

Leave it to the Celtics to cool the Magic buzz a little bit. If the Magic can win this game, I'll be extremely surprised, and then I might tip my hat to them. Until then, they're just on a nice little streak. I'm not sure why, but as impressive as some of their wins have been, I just don't see them ranked up there with Boston, LA, and Cleveland - even though they beat LA twice already. We'll see.
Hey, come on KD! No love for LAL-WAS? Like last night's game, that should be a fun one for us Lakers fans. You know Bynum is gonna have his way again with the (even more so) undersized Wizards.

Andrew K... obviously your a Laker fan... What did the Magic do to you twice already? But they aren't "ranked up there" with LA? What sense does your comment make?

Oh goody..Game 2 tonight LA vs Washington. LA is way overrated, especially after the magic spanked them twice. Bynam should score at least 40 tonight...because as they say, "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then..." GO MAGIC

lakers lost to sacramento and miami. does that mean they are better than the lakers? no.
lakers play down to their competition.
they didn't respect orlando and it bit them on the butt.
the lakers had injuries to 3 of their key players.

I'm not dissing the Magic for petty reasons like them beating my favorite team twice. I just don't think they have the mental toughness, or the bench depth, to contend. The Celts lost some of their depth this season, but they're still tough as ever. The Lakers have toughened up some (but not enough, yet) from the Finals, and they are, without a doubt, the deepest team in the league. The Cavs have always been tough, and this year, they got the depth. The Magic game consists of Howard, and a bunch of 3-pointers. I just don't see them contending.
If they blow out the Celts tonight, maybe I'll change my mind.

for me personally, i'm glad jameer nelson is starting to play like we ( his hometown fans) knew he could. he is clearly the reason why the magic are so much better than last year. i'm a die hard sixers fan, but if i had to go with another team( and it looks like my sixers are headed towards the lottery) it would be the magic.

In answer to #7 and all you laker fans out there, the L.A. lakers have won 9 NBA titles. Show some honor and quit claiming the 5 titles George Mikan won before Lost Angeles did another one of its sports franchise rape jobs on a smaller city.
