Player Notes
Trevor Rosenthal recorded his 42nd save with a scoreless ninth inning as the Cardinals escaped the Nationals with an 8-5 win on Monday.

Advice: Rosenthal was in boiling hot water, allowing back-to-back singles to open up the frame, but a base running blunder by Anthony Rendon killed the Nats' attempt to rally. Rosenthal got Ryan Zimmerman to pop out and Clint Robinson to strike out to end the game. The right-hander has saved 42 games in 44 chances while compiling a 1.49 ERA and a 69/22 K/BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings.

Cardinals activated RHP Trevor Rosenthal from the paternity leave list.

Advice: Rosenthal missed the Cardinals' weekend series in San Francisco to welcome a new baby girl. The 25-year-old All-Star closer will be back in the St. Louis bullpen for Monday night's series opener against the Nationals at Busch Stadium. He has a 1.52 ERA and 41 saves so far this season for the first-place Cards.

Cardinals placed RHP Trevor Rosenthal on the paternity leave list.

Advice: He'll miss the weekend series in San Francisco. Kevin Siegrist will handle save chances for the Cards while Rosenthal is away.

Trevor Rosenthal notched his 40th save of the season in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks, striking out two and walking one in a scoreless ninth inning.

Advice: Rosenthal came on looking to secure the win for John Lackey. He struck out Paul Goldschmidt and David Peralta to open the ninth inning, but followed those two strikeouts with a walk to Aaron Hill, bringing the tying run to the plate in the form of Jake Lamb. Rosenthal then bared down to induce a fly out from Lamb to end the game. The 25-year-old has been among the best closers in baseball this season, converting 40-of-42 opportunities while holding a 1.54 ERA and 66/20 K/BB ratio over 58 1/3 innings. He's tied with Pirates closer Mark Melancon for the major league saves lead.

Wed, Aug 26 Rotoworld
Trevor Rosenthal will miss the Cardinals' series with the Giants due to the birth of his child.

Advice: Rosenthal's wife is scheduled to be induced on Friday, and the closer already has a plane ticket bought to be there for the birth. Rosenthal will stay in St. Louis and rejoin the team after they return home from San Francisco. Kevin Siegrist is the best bet to get save opportunities during Rosenthal's absence, so save-needy owners should take a flier on the southpaw while the closer is away.

Trevor Rosenthal allowed a run but finished out the ninth inning for his 39th save in Monday's 5-3 win over the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Rosenthal allowed a one-out double to A.J. Pollock and a two-out single to David Peralta, but struck out pinch-hitter Yasmany Tomas to end the game. The right-hander is 39-for-41 in save chances with a 1.57 ERA and a 64/19 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings.
