Player Notes
Andrelton Simmons (oblique) said he's "taking it slow" with swinging a bat.

Advice: Simmons was diagnosed with an oblique strain last week, but has already resumed some baseball activities. However, the Braves don't want to push it this early in spring training, as a setback could cost him multiple weeks. He's unlikely to play in the early Grapefruit League games.

Andrelton Simmons (oblique) probably won't make his Grapefruit League debut for another week.

Advice: Simmons is thought to be over his oblique strain, but the Braves are going to play it extra safe here in early March. He should be 100 percent for the start of the 2014 season and will try to rebound offensively after batting just .244/.286/.331 with seven home runs in 146 games last year. Simmons is only 25 years old.

Andrelton Simmons (oblique) did some light throwing and took some dry swings on Friday.

Advice: It's a surprise given that he was diagnosed with an oblique strain just a day ago. Simmons will likely continue to slowly build up his hitting progression over the next few days, but it sounds like he won't be sidelined very long at all. The slick-fielding shortstop hit .244/.286/.331 with seven home runs in 146 games last season.

Andrelton Simmons is taking it easy in Braves camp after being diagnosed with a strained oblique.

Advice: It's no big deal here in late February. Simmons will likely refrain from throwing and hitting for the next week or two, but he has plenty of time to catch up before the start of the 2015 regular season. The 25-year-old shortstop is aiming for a big bounceback after hitting just .244/.286/.331 with seven home runs in 146 games last summer for Atlanta.
