Player Notes
Drew Smyly held the Yankees to two runs over six innings Wednesday in a no-decision.

Advice: Smyly struck out 10, walked just one, and yielded only four total hits. The only major blemishes on an otherwise promising afternoon were solo home runs by Chase Headley (in the fifth inning) and Chris Young (in the sixth). Smyly should continue to get better and better as he moves away from his spring shoulder tendinitis. He faces the Red Sox in Boston next.

Drew Smyly pitched 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.

Advice: Smyly missed most of April with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder and the Rays played it cautiously on Friday, pulling him after 79 pitches. Devon Travis touched him up for a solo home run in the fourth inning and Danny Valencia added an RBI single in the same frame, but Smyly didn't allow any damage beyond that. Last season, he boasted a 3.24 ERA and 1.163 WHIP over 153 innings between the Tigers and Rays. It should take a few starts for the 25-year-old to stretch out his arm, but it looks like he's on a good track. He'll continue that process when he heads to Fenway to take on the Red Sox in his next start.

Rays activated LHP Drew Smyly from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: The left-hander will make his season debut on Friday against the Blue Jays after missing the first few weeks of the season with tendinitis in his pitching shoulder. Smyly went just 3 2/3 innings in his last rehab start, so he'll be on a pretty limited pitch count Friday.
