It has been reported in the San Francisco Chronicle that Cespedes will have a new grip on the bat when he returns from the disabled list.
Recommendation: Cespedes has always held the bat with the knob in his palm, there is thought that could have contributed to the strained hand muscle that landed him on the DL. Manager Bob Melvin stated that the training staff had concerns about hamate-bone injuries. The Giants Pablo Sandoval, switch hitter, has broking both of his hamate bones and he also holds the knob of the bat in his palm. "It's not like Cespedes has an easy swing; he swings the bat hard," Melvin said. "This is proactive." This will be a change to how Cespedes has always held the bat and it may take some getting use to, but I wouldn't hold him out of your lineup when he returns because of this.
