Player Notes
Michael Pineda held the Rays to two runs over 5 2/3 innings but took a no-decision on Wednesday.

Advice: It was a valiant effort from Pineda, who had to jump up a day to start in place of the injured Masahiro Tanaka. Pineda struck out five Rays and did not issue a walk, but the Yankees' offense managed just two runs in the 13-inning game. The 26-year-old right-hander will carry a 3-0 record, 3.73 ERA, and 1.12 WHIP into his next start on the road against the Blue Jays. He also has a stellar 32/2 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings.

Michael Pineda will move up to start on Wednesday versus the Rays in place of the injured Masahiro Tanaka (forearm).

Advice: Pineda had been slated to pitch on Friday, but he'll be on regular rest Wednesday. The right-hander has been excellent so far this season with a 27/2 K/BB ratio across 25 2/3 innings.

Michael Pineda pitched 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball in Friday's 6-1 win over the Mets, allowing just five hits and striking out seven.

Advice: The Yankees made things easy for their pitcher, as they jumped on Jacob deGrom for six runs through the first three innings. Pineda took full advantage. He struck out seven and the only run he allowed came via a Lucas Duda sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. The outing lowered Pineda's ERA to 3.92. Far more impressive is his sterling 27/2 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings. Yet again, he showed pinpoint control, throwing 78 of his 100 pitches for strikes. Needless to say, he didn't walk a batter. Gone are the sizzling fastball and cover-your-eyes slider from Pineda's Mariner days, but his control has allowed him to compensate for the slight drop-off in pure stuff. Next up, a Wednesday afternoon date with the Rays.
