CF Jon Jay, who was one for his last 15 (a bunt single), went on the disabled list because of a sprained right shoulder sustained when he ran into the center-field wall a month ago. Jay said,
"I wanted to be out there and do the most I could. But it's gotten to the point where it's better to take a step back now and get some rest." Jay is hitting .343.

Jay is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cubs, the Cardinals' official Twitter page reports.
Recommendation: Skip Schumaker will be in center field and bat second against lefty Paul Maholm. The 27-year-old Jay is now batting .343 on the year, with two homers and eight RBI to go along with four steals. This is just Jay's second time out of the lineup since Apr. 25, and it appears he has a pretty firm hold on the Cardinals' center field job.

Jay was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday by the St. Louis Cardinals because of shoulder soreness.
Advice: Jay injured his right shoulder when he banged into an outfield wall last month. He's 3-for-18 on the homestand with one hit, a bunt single, in his last 15 at-bats.
