Player Notes
Blue Jays signed 1B Justin Smoak to a two-year, $8.25 million extension through 2018.

Advice: The deal includes a $6 million option for 2019 or a $250,000 buyout. According to SB Nation's Chris Cotillo, that option can increase to $8 million through escalators based on plate appearances. The Jays still aren't close to reaching long-term deals with Jose Bautista or Edwin Encarnacion, but at least they got Smoak taken care of. The 29-year-old hasn't been anything special this year, hitting just .234 with nine homers over 214 at-bats.
