Arrieta (2-5) gave up four runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 5.2 innings Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Recommendation: Not the young hurler's finest work, as he failed to build on a terrific start his last time out against the Nationals.

RHP Jake Arrieta continued his inconsistent work. He struck out nine and gave up just one run in his last start (against the Nationals) but allowed four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings in Thursday's 6-5 loss to Boston, falling to 2-5 on the season.

Arrieta didn't earn a decision Friday against Washington, but pitched well in an 11-inning victory.
Advice: After allowing 13 runs the previous two starts, Arrieta gave up one run in seven innings Friday, striking out nine. He's done this before, however, and has gone out and laid an egg the next time out.
