Player Notes
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Ian Desmond "remains a possibility" for the Mariners.

Advice: The Nationals don't seem optimistic about signing Desmond to a long-term extension, so they might decide to get something for him now even though he'd be a big part of a contending team in 2015. The Mariners are reportedly close to trading for a hitter, and it's possible Desmond might be their guy. The shortstop will make $11 million in 2015 before hitting free agency next winter.

The Nationals and Ian Desmond haven't made any progress on a contract extension, according to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

Advice: In fact, Janes says the two sides haven't talked lately about a possible extension. Desmond is a free agent following the 2015 season and turned down a seven-year, $107 million offer from the club last winter. As a result of the impasse, the Nationals have been in talks with other teams in regards to the 29-year-old shortstop. Desmond will likely play out the season with the Nats, but it seems as though his tenure with the team may not last beyond October at the latest.

Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM hears that the Mariners and Nationals are still discussing an Ian Desmond trade.

Advice: Bowden notes, however, that the M's are not willing to include Taijuan Walker or James Paxton in a return package. Desmond is due to become a free agent after the 2015 season and the Nats probably feel like they're not going to be able to afford to lock him up, so a trade this offseason is a real possibility. The 29-year-old shortstop has rattled off three straight 20-homer, 20-steal seasons.
