Player Notes
Daniel Murphy clubbed his 19th home run of the season on Friday, but it wasn't enough to lead the Nationals past the Padres.

Advice: Murphy's solo shot in the eighth inning pulled the Nats to within two runs at 5-3, but that would be as close as they would come. He continues to pummel the baseball, slashing .348/.387/.612 with 19 long balls, 70 RBI and three stolen bases in an impressive debut season with the Nats.

Daniel Murphy crushed a pinch-hit, game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning of Sunday's 18-inning loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Due to a hamstring injury, Murphy did not start the contest. He was healthy enough to pinch hit, though, and one swing was all it took. When he knotted the score at 1-1 with his solo homer off of Mark Melancon with two outs in the ninth, he probably didn't know the game would stretch on for another nine frames. At 18 innings, it turned out to be the longest game in Nationals history. For the season, Murphy is hitting a superlative .350/.388/.608 with 25 doubles, 18 homers and 67 RBI across 337 at-bats. It is still difficult to see him maintaining that beautiful triple-slash for the next two-and-a-half months, but he has done well enough to maintain it over the first three-and-a-half months, so who knows.

Daniel Murphy (hamstring) remained out of the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Advice: He's missed the entire weekend series against the Pirates with a hamstring injury that he suffered during the All-Star Game. Murphy is likely to be ready on Tuesday after Monday's off day. Stephen Drew is filling in at second base.

Daniel Murphy (hamstring) is not in the Nationals' lineup Saturday against the Pirates.

Advice: Murphy said he feels good enough to play but manager Dusty Baker is giving him an extra day just to be safe. He's expected to return Sunday and could draw the start at first base. Stephen Drew will fill in at second base Saturday and bat seventh against Pirates ace Gerrit Cole.
