Player Notes
Mariners acquired OF Justin Ruggiano from Cubs for RHP Matt Brazis.

Advice: Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune reported that the deal was done. Ruggiano hit .281/.337/.429 over 81 games in 2014. Health will be the primary concern with Ruggiano, though, as he underwent ankle surgery near the end of the 2014 campaign. He will compete for a starting job and, if nothing else, should be a serviceable backup bat for the M's.

Yahoo Sports' Tim Brown reports that the Cubs and Mariners had discussed a possible trade involving OF Justin Ruggiano.

Advice: Ruggiano hit .281/.337/.429 in 81 games during the 2014 season, though he was hampered by an ankle injury that required surgery in late August. When healthy, he provides a serviceable depth bat. The Mariners have also been connected to Marlon Byrd, though the team is on Byrd's no-trade list.
