CF Carlos Gomez was dropped from the top of the order to the bottom for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.
Manager Ron Gardenhire waited to make the move, he said, because he has been concerned what it would do to Gomez's confidence and psyche if he was dropped from first to ninth in the batting order.
"The one thing I didn't want to do right before the end of the first half was make a move like that when he was struggling and (have) him going into the All-Star break going, 'Oh my God, I could be out of here,'" said Gardenhire. "I didn't think (Monday) was a good night to do it, first night in New York. There's enough stuff going on in New York without him having to deal with first to ninth."
Gomez went 1-for-3 with a double. |

Kelly Thesier, of MLB.com, reports Minnesota Twins OF Carlos Gomez has 21 stolen bases this year but has only three since June 12. Manager Ron Gardenhire said that other pitchers are more aware of the team's speedy lineup and are using a slide step more often, which is limiting many stolen base opportunities. |
