Player Notes
White Sox signed OF Melky Cabrera to a three-year, $42 million contract.

Advice: The deal was reported late Saturday night and is now official after Cabrera passed a physical. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says the contract includes a limited no-trade clause. Cabrera batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Blue Jays and should fit nicely in the No. 2 spot in the White Sox' lineup.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Melky Cabrera's three-year deal with the White Sox will be for $42 million.

Advice: Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com first reported the deal late Saturday night and now we have more details. Cabrera reportedly entered the offseason looking for a four- or possibly five-year contract, but the $14 million average annual value of his deal with the White Sox isn't bad. Chicago will now likely trade Dayan Viciedo.

Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports that the White Sox have agreed to a three-year contract with Melky Cabrera, pending a physical.

Advice: Exact terms aren't yet known, but the contract is expected to the in the $45 million range. It was reported on Friday that the Mariners made a three-year offer, but Cabrera apparently preferred the offer he got from Chicago. The 30-year-old batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Blue Jays and further strengthens Chicago's lineup. Throw him in with the additions of Jeff Samardzija, David Robertson, and Adam LaRoche and it's clear the White Sox intend to go for it in 2015.

Enrique Rojas of ESPNDeportes.com reports that the Mariners have offered Melky Cabrera a three-year contract.

Advice: The financials aren't known, but the three-year offer isn't a surprise since it's been reported the M's are hesitant to extend a four-year pact Cabrera's way. The Orioles are also reportedly willing to give Cabrera a 2-3 year deal, as it remains to be seen if the outfielder will be able to land the four-year contract he desires. The Royals have also been in on Cabrera but might be priced out of the competition.

Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles would consider Melky Cabrera on a 2-3 year contract.

Advice: Like the Mariners, the Orioles would be a opposed to a four-year pact for Cabrera, but they'd be interested in him on a shorter deal. Cabrera is reportedly seeking a five-year contract in the $60 million range, but it's not sounding like anyone will be willing to meet those demands. That said, Cabrera is probably the best free agent bat still available, so he might choose to wait it out for the best possible deal.

Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune writes that the Mariners "appear unwilling to move beyond three years" for free agent outfielder Melky Cabrera.

Advice: Dutton says Melky is seeking a five-year contract in the $60 million range. The M's are exploring other options to fill their corner-outfield need, including Dayan Viciedo of the White Sox. Cabrera, 30, batted .301/.351/.458 with 16 home runs and 73 RBI in 139 games this past season for the Blue Jays.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mariners "remain (the) favorite" for Melky Cabrera.

Advice: The Royals had been in on the outfielder, but Heyman says they've decided Cabrera is "probably out of their price range." The Mariners are reportedly willing to offer Cabrera a deal similar to the four-year, $57 million pact they signed Nelson Cruz to. It's hard to see anyone else topping that offer.
