Player Notes
Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in the Pirates' 10-2 rout of the Brewers on Sunday afternoon at Milwaukee's Miller Park.

Advice: McCutchen was held out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Saturday after leaving Friday's game with lingering discomfort in his left knee. He has acknowledged that the knee has been an issue since spring training, but the star center fielder plans on playing through it and he sure looked healthy on Sunday. McCutchen slugged a three-run shot in the sixth inning off Brewers starter Kyle Lohse and then added an RBI single in the Pirates' six-run ninth.

Andrew McCutchen (knee) is back in the Pirates' lineup Sunday.

Advice: McCutchen pulled himself out of Friday's game and sat out Saturday due to a left knee issue. He later admitted that the knee is what bothered him during spring training, but obviously there's no worry here that it might be more than a minor concern. Josh Harrison and Francisco Cervelli are getting breathers Sunday, with Jung Ho Kang handling third base and Tony Sanchez catcher.

Andrew McCutchen admitted Saturday that the left knee issue currently keeping him out of the lineup was also what bothered him during his missed time in spring training.

Advice: The "lower body soreness" mystery is finally solved. For what it's worth, McCutchen said it wasn't only the knee but "just the body in general, the lower body," that gave him problems this spring. However, it seems clear that the knee has been the main culprit on both occasions, which is worrisome. McCutchen is downplaying the ailment, saying he "definitely" won't go on the disabled list and doesn't need an MRI. That said, we have to consider the possibility that it's an overly optimistic stance from a guy who's simply not used to being hurt. The Pirates are calling the outfielder day-to-day for now, but manager Clint Hurdle said Saturday that he's not sure when Cutch will return to the lineup.

Andrew McCutchen (knee) is not in the Pirates' starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: McCutchen pulled himself out in the ninth inning of Friday's game against the Brewers with discomfort in his left knee. The Pirates are going to take every necessary precaution with their prized outfielder, who battled lower body issues for much of spring training. Corey Hart is drawing the start in right field while Andrew Lambo mans left field. "Cutch" is considered day-to-day for now, but this is very much a lingering and concerning injury.

Andrew McCutchen removed himself during the ninth inning of Friday's contest against the Brewers with left knee discomfort.

Advice: While the issue doesn't sound too serious at the moment, there's a strong likelihood that the All-Star outfielder will be rested on Saturday as a precautionary measure. The Pirates should have an update on his status prior to Saturday's game.
