Player Notes
Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, but the Pirates fell in 13 innings to the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: McCutchen knotted the game up at 3-3 with an eighth-inning opposite-field home run off of Blaine Boyer. It's number five on the year for the outfielder, who has started to look much better at the plate. He's batting .238/.333/.399 with 23 RBI on the year.

Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Cubs.

Advice: If you're wondering why McCutchen didn't see more at-bats in a game that lasted 12 innings, look to the walk column. McCutchen drew three free passes. When McCutchen had a chance to hit, he socked one of the biggest knocks of the game, a three-run homer in the eighth inning to bring the Pirates to within 10-9. Francisco Cervelli's RBI single in the ninth inning pushed the game to extras. For the season, McCutchen is hitting .238/.336/.397 with four homers, 22 RBI and 19 runs scored.

Andrew McCutchen is out of the Pirates' starting lineup Thursday afternoon versus the Phillies.

Advice: Starling Marte is in center field and Josh Harrison is in left field as the Bucs wrap up a series with the Phillies. McCutchen is just getting a day off. He should be back in action on Friday night at Wrigley Field.

Andrew McCutchen knocked in both of the Pirates' runs in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies.

Advice: McCutchen gave the Pirates a temporary 2-0 lead in the fifth inning when he knocked in a pair of runs with a single to center field. He finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base on the night. It looks like the outfielder is starting to get into form, having hit safely in 12 of his last 14 games. McCutchen is still batting a disappointing .231/.319/.372 with three home runs, 19 RBI, and two stolen bases.

Andrew McCutchen hit his first home run since April 12 in a 2-for-4 effort as the Pirates won against the Phillies on Tuesday.

Advice: McCutchen extended the Pirates' lead to 7-2 with a two-run home run to left-center off of reliever Luis Garcia. The 2013 NL MVP has battled lower-half problems this season, limiting his effectiveness, so it was good to see him end his home run drought. He has three round-trippers on the year along with 17 RBI and a .229/.314/.373 batting line.
