Player Notes
Matt Cain struggled in his first start of the 2015 season, allowing five runs on seven hits over five innings in Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Cain sat out the first three months of the season with a flexor tendon strain in his right arm. The rust showed. The fourth inning was particularly rough for the 30-year-old right-hander, who served up two homers in the frame, including a solo shot to opposing pitcher Jose Fernandez. Cain also walked four against just two strikeouts in the contest. None of this is good, but Cain should be rostered in most mixed league formats. In his career, he has posted ERA marks higher than 4.00 just three times in ten seasons (2006, 2013, 2014). He'll face the Mets in a home start next time he toes the rubber.

Giants activated RHP Matt Cain from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Cain will make his 2015 regular-season debut Thursday in the Giants' series finale against the Marlins after missing three months with a flexor tendon strain in his right arm. The veteran right-hander pitched pretty well on his minor league rehab tour and is worth owning in most mixed fantasy leagues. Tim Lincecum (forearm) was placed on the disabled list Thursday in a corresponding roster move.

Matt Cain (forearm) will return to the Giants' starting rotation on Thursday against the Marlins.

Advice: Cain had been lined up to make his 2015 regular-season debut on Friday, but the Giants need him to step up and take Tim Lincecum's spot. Lincecum is headed to the disabled list with a forearm bruise. Cain has been decent on his lengthy minor league rehab assignment and is worth a shot in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Matt Cain (forearm) is on track to rejoin the Giants' rotation on July 3.

Advice: Cain holds a 4.61 ERA but a 15/3 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings in his first three rehab starts. The veteran right-hander is trying to pitch through a strained flexor tendon and isn't a great bet to make in through the season, but fantasy owners can probably roll with him as long as he's healthy. Go ahead and stash Cain away if he's on your waiver wire.
