Player Notes
Matt Cain allowed four runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings and launched a three-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Advice: First, the good. Cain rapped a three-run homer in the second to extend on a pre-existing 1-0 advantage. It was his seventh career tater, first since 2012. Unfortunately, the pitching side of things was less than impressive. Cain surrendered two home runs, a solo shot to Joey Votto in the fourth and a two-run dinger to Adam Duvall with one out in the sixth. The latter knocked him out of the game. Cain will carry a rough 5.95 ERA and 1.55 WHIP into a home start against the Nationals next time he toes the rubber.

Matt Cain lasted only 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday, giving up five runs on six hits while striking out only one batter.

Advice: Cain's dismal season grows bleaker. All five runs rode home on the three homers he served up. His record falls to 1-6 as his ERA skyrockets to 5.88 in 59 2/3 innings. He lines up for two starts next week if his shell-shocked owners have the courage to use him.

Wed, Jul 20 Rotoworld
Giants activated RHP Matt Cain from the 15-day disabled list.

Advice: Cain will return to the Giants' rotation Wednesday afternoon against the Red Sox. That's a tough matchup, and Cain has a 5.34 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 57 1/3 innings this year. He just missed five weeks with a hamstring strain.
