Player Notes
Matt Holliday is absent from the Cardinals' starting lineup on Saturday night.

Advice: Holliday took a 95 mph fastball off his nose Thursday, but he played all 16 innings of Friday night's extra-innings win over the Dodgers. This is just a day of rest.

Matt Holliday (nose) is back in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

Advice: Holliday was hit in the nose and upper lip area with a 95-mph fastball from Andrew Cashner on Thursday, but he's back out there a day later. The veteran outfielder is in left field and batting cleanup.

Matt Holliday is considered day-to-day after being diagnosed with a facial abrasion in the nose/upper lip area.

Advice: Given the fact that he was drilled by a 95-mph fastball from Andrew Cashner on Thursday, this sounds like the best possible outcome for the veteran outfielder. He may sit out on Friday as a precaution, but expect him to return to the Cardinals lineup over the weekend.

Matt Holliday was forced to leave Thursday's game against the Padres after getting drilled in the face by a 95-mph fastball from Andrew Cashner.

Advice: Holliday attempted to stay in the game and run the bases for himself, but the decision was ultimately made to lift him for a pinch runner. He'll head for further evaluation and presumably be put through the full concussion protocol. The Cardinals should have an update on his status after the game.

Matt Holliday smacked his 17th home run of the season Wednesday in the Cardinals' win over the Padres.

Advice: It was a solo bomb off Padres starter Colin Rea in the bottom of the second inning. Jedd Gyorko and Yadier Molina also went deep off Rea as the Cardinals took the first game of a doubleheader at Busch Stadium. Holliday is looking to finish strong after a somewhat underwhelming first half. He's sitting on a .787 OPS, 17 home runs, and 55 RBI through 87 games played.

Matt Holliday is not in the Cardinals lineup Saturday against the Marlins.

Advice: Holliday was on the field with his teammates before the game so it looks like he's just getting the day off. Tommy Pham will draw the start in left field and bat leadoff Saturday against right-hander Tom Koehler. Holliday has shown booming power this year (15 HR, 52 RBI) but has struggled to hit for average (.237 in 299 at-bats).
