Player Notes
Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said Friday that Dan Haren has yet to decide whether he'll play for the Marlins in 2015.

Advice: "He'll make his decision," Hill said. "We haven't put any timelines on it." Haren said last month that he has "no interest" in playing somewhere other than in Southern California near his family, but it sounds like he's at least considering the possibility of playing in Miami. The Marlins would like to have him, but they're covered money-wise with the Dodgers agreeing to pay Haren's $10 million salary as part of last week's trade. If Haren decides he doesn't want to play in Miami, the Marlins would look to deal him to a team in California or nearby.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Marlins may consider trading Dan Haren if he would truly rather retire than pitch for them next season.

Advice: Haren said in mid-November that he wouldn't pitch for a team outside of Los Angeles because he wants to remain close to his family, but the Dodgers moved him to the Marlins anyway in a blockbuster Winter Meetings trade. Haren, 34, hasn't announced whether he plans to stick by that statement. He should be of interest to a number of teams on the West Coast if the Marlins begin to shop him.

Dan Haren was sent from the Dodgers to the Marlins in Wednesday's seven-player deal.

Advice: Haren, who picked up his $10 million player option to remain with the Dodgers earlier this winter, could retire rather than report to the Marlins, though he indicated that he'll take a little time to make his decision. Reports indicate that the Dodgers will send the Marlins the $10 million whether Haren pitches or not. Ideally, he'd go to Miami, which is pretty much the perfect ballpark for him. It's as tough of a homer park for left-handed hitters as any in baseball.

Dan Haren is included in a potential deal that would send Dee Gordon to the Marlins for Andrew Heaney and others, per Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Advice: Last month, Haren said he would retire if the Dodgers traded him outside of Los Angeles. The club is putting him to a test by sending him about as far away from LA as possible, in a baseball sense. Haren already exercised his $10 million player option for 2015.
