RHP Jeremy Guthrie (6-7) survived a shaky first inning in which he threw 39 pitches but limited the damage to two runs when he induced OF Austin Kearns to hit into a double play to end the inning. Guthrie lasted five innings and allowed three runs.

Guthrie held the Nationals to three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings Saturday to win his sixth game of the season.
Recommendation: The way he started this game, you would not have thought he would emerge with the win. Five of the Nationals' first six batters reached base, and Guthrie walked in the Nats' first two runs. However, he allowed only one run and one walk over his next four innings of work, and he left after throwing 95 pitches.
