LHP Cliff Lee was the AL Pitcher of the Month in April, but he's pitching even better in May, having not allowed a run in 16 innings over his two May starts. Lee and RHP Fausto Carmona both pitched nine shutout innings in Monday's doubleheader. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the last time a team had two starting pitchers throw nine shutout innings in a doubleheader was the Boston Red Sox on Sept. 5, 1977, when Don Aase and Reggie Cleveland did it. |

Lee tossed nine scoreless innings, but didn't receive a decision in the nightcap of the Indians' doubleheader against Toronto on Monday. The Indians lost 3-0 in 10 innings after winning by the same score in the opener. Advice: Lee gave up seven hits and struck out five to lower his ERA to 0.67, but he failed to improve on his 6-0 record as he tried to become the first AL pitcher to go 7-0. The left-hander also failed to improve his numbers against Toronto, as he is just 0-3 with a 5.01 ERA in six career starts. Lee's shutout performance followed that of Fausto Carmona, who tossed a five-hitter in the opener. |
