RHP Rafael Soriano converted his third save in as many opportunities, pitching a scoreless ninth in the 3-2 win over the Royals. It was the first time Soriano had been asked to protect a one-run lead, as his other two saves had been in three-run games. Soriano, who made his 400th career appearance, allowed the tying run to reach third base before retiring SS Alcides Escobar to end the game.

Soriano picked up his third save of the season Tuesday against Kansas City, working around a double.
Recommendation: There was a bit of drama on the final play as Alcides Escobar nearly beat out a grounder to third to score Alex Gordon from third. The Yankees recorded the out, however, and Soriano picked up his first save since David Robertson hit the disabled list.
