Zambrano allowed just one run on five hits and three walks in seven innings Friday. He struck out three. Recommendation: Zambrano's not missing a lot of bats lately, but he's keeping the ball in the park and not allowing a lot of hits. Because the team hasn't given him much run support, he doesn't have a lot to show for it in the wins category. |

RHP Carlos Zambrano turned in his 10th quality start of the season Friday and the 50th for the Cubs, best in the majors. Zambrano had only three strikeouts and said his fastball wasn't as fast as it's been. "I was throwing a lot of split-fingers today," he said. "I saw the gun was just 88-89. I said, 'I have to pitch like (Greg) Maddux.' Just move the ball. I had a Jose Contreras split-finger. That's what I did today." |

Zambrano gave up nine hits, including a homer to Alexei Ramirez, and was charged with five runs in 5 1-3 innings of Sunday's 6-0 loss to the White Sox. He also hit two batters. Advice: Zambrano had another little meltdown Saturday. In the sixth inning, he threw a wild pitch past catcher Geovany Soto as Chris Getz stole home on a squeeze play. The play that seemed to unnerve Zambrano. The emotional Cubs ace hit DeWayne Wise with the very next pitch and a short time later was out of the game. |
