Recommendation: Wells will need 8-to-10 weeks to recover from the surgery, so don't expect to see him back on the field until late July at the earliest.

OF Vernon Wells underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb as scheduled Tuesday. The procedure took 30 minutes and was performed by hand-and-wrist specialist Steven Shin at the Kerlan-Jobe Clinic. The recovery is expected to take eight to 10 weeks.

Advice: The team said Monday that Wells will have surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his thumb at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedics in Los Angeles. Wells was hurt stealing second base in the second inning of Sunday's 3-2, 13-inning loss at San Diego.
