Burnett was chased after two-plus innings Monday night against the Phillies, allowing six runs on four hits and four walks. Recommendation: After dominating the Phillies with first-pitch strikes in Game 2, Burnett continually got himself into trouble by falling behind in the count in Game 5. Just 28 of his 53 pitches were strikes, and he put the Yankees in a deep enough hole that even four late-inning runs weren't enough to mount a comeback. |

Burnett will have the opportunity to fulfill a dream and win the clinching game of the World Series for the Yankees when he goes against old friend and fellow Arkansas native Cliff Lee in Game 5. Manager Joe Girardi announced before Game 4 Burnett would get the start because the righty had pitched well on short rest in the past and had pitched his best game of the year in Game 2, when he dominated the Phillies with seven innings of one-run ball. "They asked me and I was like, 'All right, I'm in,'" Burnett said with a smile after the Yankees' 7-4 win to give them a 3-1 Series lead. "It's great. I've waited a long time for it. And I'm going to take it full stride. I'm going to go at it with everything I've got. I'm looking forward to it. I can't wait." |
