Player Notes
A.J. Burnett tossed seven scoreless innings Thursday in a no-decision against the Braves.

Advice: Burnett left his most recent start with an inguinal hernia, but he showed no ill effects in this one. In fact, it was his best start since joining the Phillies. The veteran right-hander held the Braves to three hits (two of them singles) and two walks. He notched five strikeouts. Burnett will need surgery eventually, but he's going to try to pitch through the hernia for the rest of the season. So far, so good.

A.J. Burnett will start as scheduled Wednesday against the Braves despite being diagnosed with a hernia.

Advice: Burnett left Friday's start with groin soreness and an ultrasound Monday revealed a hernia. It's worth noting that this isn't a sports hernia, which is more severe, and the Phillies feel that he should be able to pitch through it.

A.J. Burnett (groin) will undergo an ultrasound on Monday.

Advice: Burnett threw a bullpen session Sunday, and although it went well overall he admitted to feeling a pull in his groin muscle on two occasions while throwing out of the stretch. The righty will know after Monday's exam whether he'll be cleared to make his next start on Wednesday. "I feel good, but I want my mind to be 100 percent," Burnett said Sunday. "Let's just hope it's not a (sports) hernia or something. That's what I'm worried about. Tomorrow will give me peace of mind. But as far as physically, today was a good day today. A lot better."

A.J. Burnett (groin) is questionable for his scheduled Wednesday start against the Braves.

Advice: Burnett was lifted in the fifth inning of his outing Friday night against the Marlins due to soreness in his groin, and he woke up Saturday with lingering discomfort. "We'll know more on Monday or Tuesday," Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. told reporters Saturday. "If he's still sore by then, we'll probably do more testing."

A.J. Burnett was pulled during the fifth inning of Friday's start against the Marlins due to groin soreness.

Advice: He was taken out for precautionary reasons, just two outs away from being the pitcher of record. It's unclear at the moment if he'll be able to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday against the Braves.

A.J. Burnett was removed during the fifth inning of Friday's start against the Marlins due to an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Burnett struggled with his command throughout the game, walking six and needing 106 pitches to battle through 4 1/3 innings before departing with the team trainer. He was charged with two runs on five hits and struck out four in the ballgame. Expect the Phillies to have an update on his status shortly.
