RHP Roy Halladay, who figures to be a central figure in the Jays' off-season -- will they keep him for the 2010 season, the final year of his current contract or will they trade him as part of a rebuilding process? -- finished fifth in the Cy Young voting with 11 third-place votes. It marked the fourth consecutive season that Halladay, who won the award in 2003, has placed in the top five in voting. On the season, Halladay, the starting AL pitcher at the All-Star Game, was 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA and 208 strikeouts. He also topped the major leagues with nine complete games. |

Sources told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki that the chances of the Phillies trading for Halladay this off-season are unlikely. Recommendation: This is in contrast to an earlier report claiming the Phillies were in the running for Halladay again. The Blue Jays wanted right-hander Kyle Drabek, left-hander J.A. Happ and outfielders Domonic Brown and Anthony Gose for Halladay before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. The Phillies would not part with that package of talent now that Halladay is only a year away from free agency. |
