RHP Mariano Rivera, SS Derek Jeter and 3B Alex Rodriguez all said they appreciated the class shown by rival Red Sox manager Terry Francona during the All-Star Game. Despite the controversy caused by Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon saying he would choose himself to close, Francona honored Rivera at Yankee Stadium by allowing him to pitch the ninth in a tie game. He also was sure to lift Rodriguez and Jeter in the middle of an inning so the home fans could give them ovations. Both players said they appreciated the gesture.
