Rivera recorded the final five outs Wednesday as the Yankees earned their 27th World Series title - and Rivera's fifth - with a 7-3 victory over the Phillies. Advice: Rivera, who will turn 40 on Nov. 29, was John Wetteland's setup man on the 1996 championship team, but has become the most dominant closer in postseason history with 39 saves - five this season. In the regular season, he and Andy Pettitte have combined for the most win-save combos in big league history with 63. "It's only fitting I think that Andy started it, Mo finished it," Derek Jeter said. |

RHP Mariano Rivera again appeared ageless in the regular season and postseason this year as the 39-year-old closed out four games in the World Series. The jubilant future Hall of Famer shouted to the cheering crowd that he wasn't planning on going anywhere anytime soon. "I was thinking to retire, but you know what? I think I'm going to stay another five years," he said with a big smile. Later, Rivera said he wasn't just offering showmanship to his adoring fans. "Hey, I feel great, I feel great," he said. |
