It took the Mets until late April to throw out a runner trying to steal a base, which wasn't what the team expected as they broke camp in Port St. Lucie. After prioritizing defense behind the plate during spring training, catchers Omar Narvaez and Francisco Alvarez looked like they had improved in just about every aspect. Alvarez in particular made excellent progress, showcasing a strong arm and quick times to the plate, getting into a stance with one knee down until seeing a runner take off.
