A few items to peruse while walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head ...

Manny Ramirez(notes) begins his minor league "rehab" stint with Albuquerque Isotopes tonight and Yahoo! Sports own Tim Brown says Man-Ram has no plans to address his 50-game suspension with any members of the visiting media before being reinstated on July 3 and may not ever publicly talk about the circumstances.

As usual, TB is dead on when making the point that Los Angeles fans will forgive their prodigal slugger — even though they sure refused to cut Barry Bonds(notes) any slack — but you can count me as someone who just won't shrug over Manny's return. If he thought it was appropriate to apologize to Frank McCourt, Joe Torre and his Dodgers teammates, why don't the fans warrant the same response? [Yahoo! Sports]

• DB, you appear to be off the hook. Cincinnati's Joey Votto(notes) will probably make his MLB return tonight in his hometown of Toronto. [Dayton Daily News]

• I thought it was funny as a one-time thing, but count me among the growing crowd that believe Toronto's "fake umps" are overstaying their welcome. [Drunk Jays Fans]

• As if the Mets needed any more evidence that they're snakebitten when it comes to injuries, Jose Reyes was involved in a car accident on his way to a doctor's appointment Monday morning. No worries, though. Reyes wasn't injured (at least any further). [NY Post]

• Big Papi and the Red Sox are headed to play in Washington for the franchise's first time since 1971, which begs the question: Can Boston put three tallies into the win column before they even leave the Hub? [Red Sox Monster]

• Meanwhile, Nats fans are asking this survival-minded question: Can we possibly survive the invasion of Red Sox Nation at Nats Park? [Nats Enquirer]

• Straight from the quaint streets of Cooperstown comes this on-the-ground account of Sunday's Old Timers' Day. [Subway Squawkers]

• Why Boston will miss Dice-K more than Bob Ryan thinks they will. [YFSF]

wow, you sound like such a crybaby. Why might the LA fans give Manny a break that they won't give to Bonds? Maybe it has to do with Manny winning them a bunch of games and Bonds playing for their rivals. Plus at least Manny's head didn't grow to insane propotions since he started in the league.

Manny doesn't care. Neither do the fans. It's always been a sportswriter story. no one has stopped going to the park or cheering for their team or their star. It seems strange that the media wants Manny to bow down. don't waste any more time on it. He will never address the media; that wants to know. He doesn't care if he makes the HOF so what's there to talk about? Really?

TB is an idiot for even asking the question, but i'll answer it anyways... Like mark said, Manny's been productive for us, he's a friendly character of the game, and he's our boyyyyyy!!!! As for Barry, he played for the hated Giants, so whatever ANY giant does is unforgivable to any TRUE DODGER fan, or for that matter , the punk-azz Yankees also included ( A-Roid). If you look at those rival cities, they would say the same of our team. That's Rivalism.

i found out walking into a small dining facility in southern iraq that manny had pissed hot. i was crushed when i seen it on ESPN and all my buddies stopped to look at my reaction due to the fact, like all dodger fans, i have been waiting 22 years now for our boys to make it back to the big show. with all that said, TRUE LA FANS back MANNY 100% and he knows that. TB needs to get off manny's d*ck and get a life. 10 more days until our boy is back and we will finish dominating the NL for the rest of the year.

Two things I can't stand: Dodgers and Manny's dreadlocks. What is a guy, at his age, doing wearing his hair like that? Grow up and get a haircut already. Sheesh!

I don't see how manny is allowed to play professional baseball while suspended. he should not be allowed to play in any baseball games until his suspension is over, otherwise i don't see the point in having him "suspended". what, he loses a little money? big deal, he's got 9 figures in the bank.
He should have to wait out his 50 game suspension, then if he isn't ready for big league pitching, then he can go play some minor league games. the minor league affiliate is going to bank on having manny there, so the organization will still profit from a suspended player and manny gets to be ready to play immediately upon coming off suspension. weak sauce...

Who are you Mike & Mike in the Morning? If you kept watching or listening; the answer is the CBA. At the same time, ESPN and all of the sports people are going to make huge money off of Manny's return, because they know people don't care and want to watch Manny. I'll be watching, won't you?

The reason why fans don't really care about manny's steroid problem as a appose to barry bonds, that answer is simple. Character. Manny has always been good with the fans; Bonds has not.
Manny is equivalent to Bill clinton. When Clinton cheated the public was disappointed but that is where it ended he was still the president in the end. But had it been George Bush, Barry Bonds, all hell would have broken lose.
It is all politics even in sports. Manny made a mistake but he is good with the fans. He has not been good with the media or any authority figure but he has been great with the fans.

Agreed! It's not steroids. about 75% of the baseball fans hated Barry Bonds before any steroid allegations. Nothing has changed. It's not steroids; people never liked him.

    Post 11,
There is nothing wrong with Manny going on a rehab assignment. Its not like they are breaking any rules just for him. J.C. Romero with Philadelphia was able to go on an assignment before his suspension was up and I didn't hear any complaining about it. As for the steroids talk, its getting old. People need to realize that many players still have to be taking steroids and its not going to stop. Unless they plan on testing every player every week, you are still going to see it happening. Also, they need to just put the list of 100 players that tested positive out there for everyone to see. I am tired of hearing about a leak every couple of months just to give the reporters something to talk about for a week. Get over it and report on the the sport itself.
