A few items to peruse while walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head ...
• Manny Ramirez(notes) begins his minor league "rehab" stint with Albuquerque Isotopes tonight and Yahoo! Sports own Tim Brown says Man-Ram has no plans to address his 50-game suspension with any members of the visiting media before being reinstated on July 3 and may not ever publicly talk about the circumstances.
As usual, TB is dead on when making the point that Los Angeles fans will forgive their prodigal slugger — even though they sure refused to cut Barry Bonds(notes) any slack — but you can count me as someone who just won't shrug over Manny's return. If he thought it was appropriate to apologize to Frank McCourt, Joe Torre and his Dodgers teammates, why don't the fans warrant the same response? [Yahoo! Sports]
• DB, you appear to be off the hook. Cincinnati's Joey Votto(notes) will probably make his MLB return tonight in his hometown of Toronto. [Dayton Daily News]
• I thought it was funny as a one-time thing, but count me among the growing crowd that believe Toronto's "fake umps" are overstaying their welcome. [Drunk Jays Fans]
• As if the Mets needed any more evidence that they're snakebitten when it comes to injuries, Jose Reyes was involved in a car accident on his way to a doctor's appointment Monday morning. No worries, though. Reyes wasn't injured (at least any further). [NY Post]
• Big Papi and the Red Sox are headed to play in Washington for the franchise's first time since 1971, which begs the question: Can Boston put three tallies into the win column before they even leave the Hub? [Red Sox Monster]
• Meanwhile, Nats fans are asking this survival-minded question: Can we possibly survive the invasion of Red Sox Nation at Nats Park? [Nats Enquirer]
• Straight from the quaint streets of Cooperstown comes this on-the-ground account of Sunday's Old Timers' Day. [Subway Squawkers]
• Why Boston will miss Dice-K more than Bob Ryan thinks they will. [YFSF]

He should have to wait out his 50 game suspension, then if he isn't ready for big league pitching, then he can go play some minor league games. the minor league affiliate is going to bank on having manny there, so the organization will still profit from a suspended player and manny gets to be ready to play immediately upon coming off suspension. weak sauce...

Manny is equivalent to Bill clinton. When Clinton cheated the public was disappointed but that is where it ended he was still the president in the end. But had it been George Bush, Barry Bonds, all hell would have broken lose.
It is all politics even in sports. Manny made a mistake but he is good with the fans. He has not been good with the media or any authority figure but he has been great with the fans.

There is nothing wrong with Manny going on a rehab assignment. Its not like they are breaking any rules just for him. J.C. Romero with Philadelphia was able to go on an assignment before his suspension was up and I didn't hear any complaining about it. As for the steroids talk, its getting old. People need to realize that many players still have to be taking steroids and its not going to stop. Unless they plan on testing every player every week, you are still going to see it happening. Also, they need to just put the list of 100 players that tested positive out there for everyone to see. I am tired of hearing about a leak every couple of months just to give the reporters something to talk about for a week. Get over it and report on the the sport itself.
