Joba Chamberlain got over the hump by standing a little taller on the bump.

In some good spring training news for the Yankees, Chamberlain hit 96 mph on the radar gun and used two different sliders effectively against the Reds on Tuesday night.

Chamberlain, who had suffered through two poor spring starts, felt motivated to improve before opening day got any closer.

"We're less than a month away now," Chamberlain said. "You understand there's work to be done, but you also have to have that sense of urgency.

"Maybe you need a kick in the rear end every once in a while."

Chamberlain’s line: 3 IP, 3 H, ER, 0 BB, 3 K. His ERA dropped from 18.00 to 6.75.

Much more like how Real Joba's supposed to pitch. Maybe the other guy was Fake Joba?

Chamberlain looks slimmer to me than last year's model and he looked a lot more comfortable on the mound after making an adjustment in how he toes the rubber and delivers the ball.

"It's just two little things; staying taller over the rubber and just feeling more comfortable," Chamberlain said. "The ball came out a lot better and the numbers translate it."

Pitching coach Dave Eiland noticed a flaw in Chamberlain's delivery and has been working on it with him ever since.

"I was putting energy behind the rubber instead of over the rubber," Chamberlain said. "It's an inch that makes a difference. It's amazing."

It seemed hyperbolic in a New York way when a reporter asked Chamberlain if he felt his spot in the rotation was in jeopardy after coming in with an 18.00 ERA.

Don't a lot of players have kinks to work out in the spring?

Yeah, Chamberlain said, but it also was a reasonable question.

"I always think that; there's a lot of guys behind me that want my job," Chamberlain said. "Just like I want CC's and A.J.'s and Chien-Ming's jobs. That makes our team better because you know there's guys behind you that are going to push you.

"There's so many talented guys that you can't take a deep breath and relax for a second."

I think it's OK for Joba to now take a deep breath and relax, though it's good to see him hitting the mid-90s on the gun. He also has been asking Sabathia and Burnett about varying his slider. It can be soft or hard, depending on what he wants to use it for.

I'm getting the feeling that Duk is a yankee fan, since half of his blogs are about glorifying the nation most corrupt organization, wether it be from fat-azz joba, to A-Fraud's hip, to the 3 clowns @ the Magic game. Let's get some better stories to blog about instead of that bunch of New York Losers.

#13 "don't worry when he goes down hank will probably buy another 40 year old future hall of famer just like every year." so Theo does that and it's a GREAT move, Yankees do it and they just buy WS
#14 one injury makes him have a HISTORY of shoulder issues?
if you're talking about his college days it was knee due to his weight and his tricep.

Only time will tell with Joba. Just as long as they don't jerk him around as either a starter or bullpen pitcher this year. Personally the way he pitches, as a starter I see him burning out by the All Star game.

Joba is gonna do good this year. THey'll limit his innings, he's gonna be a 6 inning and done guy. He'll be good even tho I really hate when coaches take pitchers out after 6 innings just cuz they pitched 6 innings and are around 100 pitches.
As long as every once in a while they let Joba stretch the arm out and let him go 7+ and more that 120 pitches, I'm all for limiting the innings, especially if after that long start they skip him in the rotation which the will do with a fifth starter.
THe only way to get Joba to reach his potential is to stretch that arm out in games. An ace of a staff is not an ace if he cannot go 7+ innings. Joba aint the ace this year, and may not ever have to be with all these guys on the staff, but it'd be nice to have 4 #1 starters eventually ?

Joba has a history of shoulder injuries? WTF are you talking about man? He had a slight strain last season which he was out for like a month and only that long b/c the Yankees do not want to push him b/c they see him as the future of the team. Think with your brain next time you want to make assinine comments.
