The tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., has affected everyone, and the NFL is no exception. All teams will observe a moment of remembrance before their games on Sunday and Monday, and the New York Giants and New England Patriots will have specific tributes to the fallen on their uniforms. On a more personal level, Giants receiver Victor Cruz reached out to the family of 6-year-old Jack Pinto, one of the children killed in the shooting.

When Cruz found out that the young boy was a big fan, he spoke to Pinto's family, and he will wear Pinto's name on his shoes and gloves Sunday when the Giants face the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome. Cruz also told ESPN that the family were considering burying their son in Cruz's jersey.

On a personal note, I had to stop and collect myself after writing that last sentence.

"My sincerest condolences to the entire Pinto family," Cruz tweeted out on Sunday morning. "My prayers are with you during this extremely difficult time." He then put pictures of the shoes on his account.

"Our hearts go out to the families," Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told ESPN's Rachel Nichols on Sunday morning. "To have this happen, it's almost beyond explanation."

Coughlin added that the Giants had their own moment of silence for the victims before Saturday's team meeting.

"My only thought there was as a New York Giant family, we should all rise and have a moment of silence recognizing the families of these children, the families of the principal, the people at the school that were killed, just to recognize the fact that our hearts are so saddened by this event. The senseless killing — it's very difficult to get past the senseless killing of children."

Impossible, one might say.

After the game, which the Giants lost, 34-0, Cruz told ESPN's Rachel Nichols that he would be driving to Newtown to present the cleats to Jack Pinto's parents.

Win or lose, we don't care. Victor Cruz understands what's important.
