MINNEAPOLIS — It has become an All-Star tradition of sorts for each host city to place local and baseball-themed statues around the town for photo opportunities. Phoenix featured cactii. Anaheim had Mickey Mouse. New York had Statues of Liberty in 2008 and Big Apples in 2013.
What Minneapolis has this year, however, is the best of the bunch so far. Ten different Peanuts characters are positioned on a lawn outside the Minneapolis Convention Center drawing camera-toting fans on their way into the MLB Fanfest. Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy ... they're all there.
The statues are a natural fit for the Twin Cities as Peanuts creator Charles Schulz was born in St. Paul and his comic strips often featured his gang out playing baseball on the sand lot. According to MLB.com, each figure stands between five and six feet tall and weigh 200-300 pounds.
