The Seattle Mariners usually air the best TV commercials, or they're up there with the Minnesota Twins. This cannot be disputed. (OK, it can. It's all subjective. But the M's are the best.) They have put their commercials for 2014 on the team's website — starting with "Old School Kyle Seager" — and they're all good. The players always get into their roles.
In addition to Seager tweeting on a manual typewriter and getting hit with pitches on purpose during batting practice, Felix Hernandez takes his "King Felix" literally as he magically transforms into kings throughout history. Hisashi Iwakuma surprises his teammates with his many artsy non-baseball talents, most notably by break-dancing on his head, turning balloons into animals for an overwhelmed Charlie Furbush and being shockingly detailed by signing (and sketching) an autograph for a young fan. And they utilize $240 million man Robinson Cano in slow motion, which is funny and ironic if you're one of the Yankees fans who complained about Cano not always running out grounders.
Manager Lloyd McClendon (this is not him in the photo — it's a guy wearing a King Felix crown) might be a tad stiff, but the producers can use that to their advantage in future ads. Enjoy the ads. They'll probably be better than the baseball in '14!
