Thomas celebrates 100th; receives key to the city

Longtime Oak Ridge resident Louise “Tiddle” Thomas celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on Saturday, June 4, at Canterfield of Oak Ridge.

Born in Charlotte, Tenn., she graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1943 and came to Oak Ridge to work at X-10 for a year. She returned to Oak Ridge in 1946 with her husband James Rodney Thomas, raised three children, and has lived here ever since, according to the news release announcing her birthday.

Tiddle joined First United Methodist Church in 1947 and has been active as a member or chairperson of multiple church organizations and committees over the past 75 years. She also served as a pink lady at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge for 25 years. In addition to her volunteer work, Tiddle has enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and was pleased to become a bronze life master at age 89 with her longtime bridge partner Lula Bartholomew.

Along with the many congratulations on becoming a new centenarian, Tiddle was honored to receive a proclamation and key to the city from Mayor Warren Gooch.
