Open Thread: Colorado Avalanche vs. Anaheim Ducks (8:00 p.m.)

The Colorado Avalanche have made the quick trip from Arizona to Anaheim for a late-night matchup with the Ducks on the heels of last night's shootout victory over the Arizona Coyotes. The last time these two teams met, the Ducks bested the Avalanche 5-3. The Avalanche will have won nine of their previous ten games if they secure a victory this evening. The hockey community was quick to point out that the Avalanche had the most manageable schedule heading into march, at least in terms of the strength of their opponents.

Kiszla vs. Durando: Who is the Avalanche's most valuable player in 2022-23?

Kiz: After the victory parade ended and the Avs took the Stanley Cup on a world tour, very little went according to plan for the defending champs. Look at the Avs now, with a real chance to steal first place in the Central Division as the regular season comes down the stretch. Durando: Say what you want about the inconsistencies that have made this season feel blemished at times, but there's one constant that still separates the Avalanche: Their three best players are better than your team's three best players. If the NHL shared the same hot-take TV space as the NBA, there would be a constant debate of where Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen rank among other generational Big Threes.

    FanDuel NHL: Monday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series. Only the Wild, who currently lead the Central Division, and the Devils, who clinched a berth Saturday, are assured of a playoff spot. The remaining four teams will be jostling for positioning in the wild card, though the Sens have the biggest hill to climb sitting seven points out of a playoff spot. Note Kraken at Wild, Oilers at Coyotes and Avalanche at Ducks will be available on the Late Night slate while the After Hours slate will feature only the latter two games.
